Happy Halloween!
Hello all,
Today is Halloween and for the trick of the day, my car battery was dead. Yep, dead as a hammer. I had to ask Jennifer to come back to the house and pick the kids up and take them to school. I then took her to work and went and bought a battery from Walmart. After busting my knuckles for a little bit, my car started just fine. Question: Why do they put car batteries in the most inconvenient place? Wait, don't answer that. I'm sure they will move it under the drivers seat next!

Back to work
Hello all,
It is Monday. Halloween is tomorrow. Embarq is allowing us to dress up tomorrow for work. Hmmm... I wonder what I should wear?

Chiefs Game and washing machine pedestal
Hello all,
Today the Chiefs beat the Seattle Seahawks at Arrowhead. The Chiefs tried really hard to lose the game, but managed to stop the Seattle drive in the last minute. After the game, Jennifer and I visited with my mom for a little bit and then she headed home.
After dinner I went to Home Depot and bought the raw materials for the washing machine pedestal. I raised the washer and dryer twelve inches and it is wonderful. I hate to say it, but laundry is kinda fun now.

Ali loses another tooth
Hello all,
Tonight Ali lost another tooth. It has been loose for some time now, but she finally allowed me to wiggle it enough to come out tonight. The best part was she pulled the final tug and the tooth came out. Good for you Boo!

Washing clothes all day
Hello all,
Well, the new washing machine is being put through its paces today. I would say that if it was going to screw up, it would today. I think there were twelve loads total washed today. I must say, the kids had a blast watching the clothes tumble as they were washed.

Picking up the washing machine today
Hello all,
Tonight Jennifer and I will start the marathon process of washing two weeks of laundry. The washing machine is suppose to be in by 5:00 tonight. David Sink has agreed to let me borrow his truck to pick it up. I hope to be running the first cycle by 5:30. For 40 minutes / wash, Jen should be putting the last load by midnight.

Ali's first parent/teacher conference
Hello all,
Today, Jennifer and I are going to Ali's school for our first parent/teacher conference. I'm really not sure what it will be like. I hope they don't make me sit in the little chairs with my knees up to my chin. ;)

Lunch with Jeff Rogers
Hello all,
Today I had lunch with Jeff Rogers. It was great to get out of the office for a while and just reminisce what it was like to be about our first years with the company. I met Jeff in 1999. He had just graduated from Iowa State. I had been working on SODS for only a year and a half and was still very green when it came to the corporate world. As we ate our lunch, we shared stories of lessons learned and friends that have moved on. I guess you could say we are both seasoned IT professionals now. It is great to have you back on the team again Jeff.

Getting colder
Hello all,
Fall is surely hear to stay now. I left the house this morning and it was 34° F. It is a good thing that Jen and I were able to get some of the clothes washed before it quit last night.

Washing machine leak
Hello all,
Last night Jennifer walked into the utility room and found water leaking out of the washing machine. It was not a good sign. It appears that the drum has lost a seal somewhere inside and water leaks immediately once it starts to fill. I guess eight years is all a washing machine will last.
Oh well....

Huskers lose a heartbreaker
Hello all,
The mighty Nebraska Cornhuskers lost a well played game against the Texas Longhorns today. Jen and I were cheering as loud as we could to bring a win, but it was not to be. Maybe next week the cornhuskers will win.

Out Sick
Hello all,
I've been at home today recovering from the flu. I would like to attribute it to the change of temperature, but I'm afraid it was caused by people coming into the office when they do not feel well.

Cleaning up after D7840
Hello all,
Today I started the process of checking in code for D7840. There are a lot of moving pieces that need to be put into the code repository before they are lost.

Ali to the doctor
Hello all,
It was bound to happen sooner or later this Fall, Ali went to see Dr. D. again. Yep, her childhood asthma is not going away yet. She coughs really hard when she wakes up in the morning. Once she clears out her throat, she is fine. Dr. D. has placed her on another medication that will hopefully dry her nose out.

Night out at the American
Hello all,
Tonight Jennifer and I dined at The American restaurant in Crown Center. Tonight we celebrated our eighth wedding anniversary. I know that our anniversary is really on Tuesday, but tonight was the dinner portion the celebration. It was a wonderful evening. We shared our first bottle of wine. It is almost like we are grown up!
Jennifer, thank you for eight wonderful years!
Love you,
-Andy
Easy day
Hello all,
It is nice being a Dad and Husband again. I was actually able to watch Ali's soccer game without the thought of being called for D3950 or D7840.

Home Stretch
Hello all,
Tonight D7840 is going into production. After eight months of working on this endeavor, it is finally going into production. Many long nights and many days of intense stress, I am on the verge of getting my life back. I want to thank my wife, Jennifer, for putting up with an extremely moody husband. I want to apologize to my children for being cheated out of a dad for so many nights. It was never my goal to not read to you at night or be on the phone while you are playing soccer. Sometimes dad's work doesn't always understand that I am not always "on call".
Thank you again for being a wonderful family. I am looking forward to a much deserved reprieve 70 hour weeks.
Love you,
-Andy

Stress Test
Hello all,
Today I had a stress test at St. Lukes. The technician's goal was to get my heart up to 192 beats/minute. Once I reached their goal, I had to lay down on a table and have my heart recorded with a sonogram. I was on the treadmill for 40 minutes before my heart reached the maximum they were looking for. After the test was over, my heart recovered in less than three minutes. I was at 110/70 and feeling fine in short order. Now I am waiting for the results.

Well, it has been one of those days. I have been working on D7840 all day with very little success. I want this project to be over. I really am getting tired of this politically motivated business decisions.

Moving again
Hello all,
Today I am moving from the 5th floor of 6050 to the 4th floor. I am basically moving one row over. Over 1000 people are moving this weekend. I am looking forward to staying in one place for a while. Moving every three months is getting old.
