First mow of the season

Hello all,

Well I finally got through the first pass on my yard. It looks very rough right now, but at least I have it knocked down. It was really wet when I tried to cut it, but I had to get through it to make it easier to mow it Tuesday night. Some of the places were so tall it almost stalled the mowers engine. On the bright side, I know the fertilizer is working great!

Only SODS person at work today

Hello all,

Today was a lonely day for me at work because both Chris and Steve took the day off of work. I worked on D3950 for most of the morning and then attended a VP all hands meeting where they talked about Embarq 2.0. It is the replacement strategy for all of the legacy systems (like SODS). They will be buying someone else's product and then Embarq will just use it. It does not sound like a lot of fun. However, I have been wrong before.

More rain

Hello all,

With all of the rain we have been getting, my yard has really perked up this week. If you didn't know it, you would think I was raising winter wheat by the thickness of my grass. At this rate, I'll have to mow my grass twice before it looks good.

Running into old friends at Oklahoma Joe's

Hello all,

It is odd how time has you running into people that you need to say hello to every now and again. Today was one of those days where I ran into two fraternity brothers from school. While standing in line at Oklahoma Joe's, Mike Stephenson and Steve Lovell came up to say hello. They are both working at Garmin in Lenexa, KS. Steve is in marketing and Mike is a trainer. I was pleased to hear that they and their families are doing well. Time stands still for no one they say. Today was just another example of that fact. We used to see each other ten times a day. Now I see Mike and Steve once, maybe twice a year. It was good to see you two today.

I have been under new management for two weeks now and I still have not received a new assignment. I am finishing up my last two projects under SODS and am looking forward to seeing what this new team has to offer.

Visiting with Jen's Grandparents

Hello all,

Tonight I took Ali and Zac over to Diane's house for one last visit with Phyllis and Tom before they head back to Minnesota. Ali tried on her dance costume for everyone. She looks very cute in her pink outfit with feathers. Not to be outdone, Zac did his rendition of a disco dance for us all. He is quite the dancer. I am sure the ladies are going to love him when he gets older.

Kids clothes

Hello all,

This afternoon Jennifer and I bought both kids some summer clothes to replace those that they have outgrown. We both could not believe how much they have grown in a year. Zac is now wearing boys small. He is no longer in a T number. Ali is growing just as fast. Her favorite colors are still pink and yellow. She is my little flower child.

Getting ready for the Spring

Hello all,

Today I spent a little bit of money and purchased an air compressor. Why? Well, it is fun to have and it does serve a purpose. I used it today to clean up the lawnmower and trimmer. I took the air intake off and blew all of the dust and debris out of the chamber. After an oil change and new spark plug, they both started on the first pull. I could not have been happier.

Easy Friday

Hello all,

Today I finished up work on the BeautiControl Tool for Jennifer. I think there will be some improvements that she will ask for, but for the most part it is done.

BeautiControl Tool

Hello all,

I have been putting a lot of time and effort into the BeautiControl tool for Jennifer. It has evolved a lot since it started. It is no longer a few PHP files that do simple stuff. If I wanted to, I think I could modify it to be a tool to market to other BC clients. I'll see if that is something I want to do later.

Raining

Hello all,

The Spring showers are here finally. It will not be long before the yard is green and begging for it to be mowed. I am hoping this years yard work goes better than last year. I got behind several times and the lawn looked bad. I am hoping for a better result this year.

Home sick

Hello all,

Today I am home with a sinus infection. After church yesterday I went to urgent care and received a prescription for Zithromax. Dr. Fox said my nose and ears looked painful and I should take it easy for a day or two. Yesterday I spent in my chair and watched basketball. Today I laid on the couch and rested. I hope I feel better tomorrow.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Hello all,

Another St. Patrick's day has come to Kansas City. Jennifer and I have not planned anything special to do with the kids today. In the past we have not taken them to the parade downtown. We will spend the day watching NCAA basketball on TV and rooting on the underdogs I'm sure.

Beware of the Ides of March

Hello all,

Well, Shakespeare had it right. When I walked into work today I was a full fledged member of the SODS team. At lunch today I found out that I will be joining a new team effective Monday. I don't know what team it is, but I'm sure it will not be as nice as being on SODS.

Visiting Mom Today

Hello all,

Jennifer, Ali, Zac and I drove up to Randolph last night for a visit with my mother today. We stopped in St. Joe to eat and then finished the trip and made it up here by 9:00.

This morning I drove dad's pick-up to Shenandoah for repairs. We stopped at McDonald's for breakfast on our way back home. I helped mom with some odd jobs around the farm while the kids played in the snow. An impromptu snowball fight ensued between Ali and Zac vs. Dad. I lost. I am an easy target when Ali says "OK, Dad. Don't move. I'm going to get you." How can I beat that?

After getting warmed up and changed into dry clothes, we waited for Danna, Nic and Dade to arrive at the farm. Upon their arrival, we headed to Malvern to visit the cemetery and lay flowers at Dad's headstone. Ali lead the way by telling Grandpa about her week at school. Zac danced a little bit for Grandpa while the rest of the family stood in remembrance. Before we left, Ali released a red balloon in Dad's memory. We all watched as it disappeared into the clear blue skies overhead.

The afternoon was filled with a bite to eat at Pizza Hut and then a visit to Tabor Manor to visit Grandma and Dorthy. The kids enjoyed taking turns pushing Grandma's wheelchair down the hall and back.

It was soon time to pack up and head South. Ali and Jennifer took a nap while Ali and I listened to the radio on the way home.

Echos of my father's voice

Hello all,

Today is the second anniversary of the passing of my father Bill Scott. I have reflecting a on our relationship for most of the day and several things started to surface while I thought about dad's personality. For the first time I recognized that I am demonstrating a lot of the same characteristic of my dad. Dad always had a way of knowing when someone needed to someone to drop by and say "hi" or just be there to talk to. He was also one of the first people that would get involved if a his help was needed.

Over the past year, I have been changing. It may have been imperceptible on a day by day account, but I could feel it. I am not as skeptical as I once was. I am wanting to help more in my community.

I am thanking God for the gifts I have received instead of asking for more. This has given me great peace. I know that I do not know why God chose to take Dad away from my family when he did. It is not my place to know that. In time, I will be told all. That give me great comfort and allows me to concentrate on being a good husband, father, brother, son and friend.

On this anniversary, I think that is a lesson that Dad would like me to learn. Right now I feel like he is standing next to me and smiling at me while he pats me on the shoulder in approval. (My body is tingling right now... I can feel him next to me.)

I love you DAD.

Love,

-Bud

Here I sit in my chair. It is a standard Sunday night at my house. Jennifer is watching Desperate Housewives while I play on the web. I just paid bills online. Wow... with just a few clicks I'm done. No checkbook, No stamps... life has really changed in the past few years.

Running errands with Zac

Hello all,

Today Zac and I ran some early morning errands while the girls went shopping for new shoes. We went to get a hair cut first (2 clip on the sides and 4.5 on the top). Then it was off to Lowes for a wing-nut that was missing off of the upstairs table. We were soon on our way home to get change cars and get Jen's van's oil changed. It was quite a day for the Scott boys.
