Everyone should have kids...

Hello all,

You never know how much you can love someone until you have kids. They may do things that drive you crazy, but you still love them all the more. Ali and Zac were in great moods tonight and wanted to play with mom and dad. What an honor to play with the two greatest kids on the face of the earth.

We did "head-shoulder-knees-and-toes" a few times and "stand-up Zac" a few more. Ali was being tickled while Zac was showing us how well he jumps around the living room. Oh, to have the energy these kids have. I wish I could bottle it up and drink it the next day.

Good night,

Note on the weekend

Hello all,

I went up to see mom and dad Friday and Saturday. Jen took mom to Omaha Saturday morning to shop for a new dresser for upstairs while I stayed at home with Dad. Staying with Dad and caring for him allowed me to reflect on these past few months as well as some of the best times we have shared as a father - son pair.

Dad slept for most of the morning. He woke up a few times and tried to get out of bed, but was confused why his legs did not work. He asked me what was wrong. I let him know that he was sick and needed to stay seated and I would get him anything that he needed. We talked about the thoughts that were going through his mind. He was sure the Russians were going to bomb us any day now. From the way he was talking, I would attribute it to the Cuban missile Crisis from the early 1960's. We talked for another five minutes or so and he asked to lay down again. I helped him get his legs back into bed and covered him up. I put his canula back over his ears and rubbed his back until he drifted back to sleep.

I was in the living room when I heard his bed start to creek again. He had swung his legs over the side of the bed and was looking for a way to stand up. He said he had to go out and do chores. I reassured him that the chores were done. I told him it was very cold outside and he should stay in the house where it is warmer. Dad nodded his head in agreement as he listened to the wind howl outside his window. We had another short conversation and it was soon time to cover him back up and drift back to sleep.

Staying with Dad was something I didn't think I was ready for. I needed reassurance from both Jen and my mom that I was qualified to do it. I was unsure that I would be able to help him. While Jen and mom were out, I found that I could do it and it made me happy to be there for dad. He has cared for me for so long, it is only right that I care for him.

Thanks dad...

New laptop

Hello all,

I am writing a quick note to try out my replacement laptop for work. It seems that my screen on my old laptop somehow was cracked and I have a replacement now. It works pretty good I think.

UPDATE:
Both Ali and Zac went to daycare today. I am back at work and my shoulder still hurts. Some things never change.

Special pictures from Danna

Hello all,

I owe my sister Danna a big Thank You for taking the following pictures tonight while visiting my parents.

This is dad talking on the phone with me. He had a pretty day according to mom. By the time I talked with him, he was tired and didn't have a lot of energy to carry on a conversation.

Awe... shucks. You two.

Have a good night!

Preschool closed today

Hello all,

My day started at 5:15 this morning with my day care provider calling letting me know that she will be closed today due to an illness in the house. So, I was Mr. Mom today. I let the kids sleep in until 9:00. It let me get some work done right away. Since I was home, Jen made me an appointment at Gashland Clinic for me. I hurt my right shoulder Thursday night while working out. I went to work out again on Saturday when it hurt more. By last night I had a hard time falling asleep.

It turns out that I have strained my rotator cuff and I am on limited activity with my right arm. Let me tell you life is tough when you cannot use your right arm. I am shut down for at least two weeks. I may have to shut it down for three weeks. So bear with me if I am grumpy about this.

Ok, I'm done venting. I hope you have a good night.

Time for some fun

Hello all,

The past few weeks have been cold and forced my family to stay cooped up in the house. Last night, it was time to cut loose and have some fun. After making ice cream Sunday's for the family, it was time to have the first ever "Scott Kids Jump Off". The game is simple. It consists of a Ali and Zac jumping from the couch or chair and landing on his or her feet. Style points are given for creative expression. Think of it as freestyle couch jumping. I'm sure it will be an Olympic event by the time my kids are old enough. :) I hope you like the pictures.

This one was to win the pairs jump event.

They stuck the landing and won the gold medal! Jen and I are so proud.

I hope you all like the pictures.

Going to the gym

Hello all,

I have gone to the gym five times since the beginning of the year! I am getting over the original stiffness in my shoulders and legs that I encounter every time I decide to start back up. I hope it to see a change by the Spring.

As for the weather in KC, it is still cold and icy. The wind is really suppose to blow tomorrow and be very cold. I was hoping the ice would melt away today, but it did not. Maybe next week I can walk without slipping from time to time.

Well, I'm getting ready to give the kids a bath.

Correction to my last post

Hello all,

As my wonderful sister Nicole pointed out, she was visiting on Sunday as well. I was remiss in not mentioning her in my last blog entry. Sorry about that Nic.

Today is a dreary day in KC. We had freezing drizzle all night which made it fun getting started today. The clouds have been hanging low all afternoon which makes for a gloomy mind set. I have had two cups of coffee and I'm still not awake. So, how do you wake up on days like today? Or was this a sign from God to just stay in bed and sleep all day? I vote for the sleep.

Better get going!

Went up to see Dad

Hello all,

I went up to see mom & dad this weekend. Aunt Bev and my cousin David were over to visit. It was good to see both of them again. Mom gave Bev a perm while David and I watched some football. Dad slept for most of the day. I sat with him while he ate his eggs. I also helped him into his wheel chair so that mom and Bev could change the sheets on the bed.

Driving home was strange. The weather was fine and it did not take as long to get home. It may have been the fact that I was pushing go get home and see my wife and kids. Zac learned to say "I love you" this weekend. Ali was had been asking where Daddy was. All of these things made me get home and see the family.

I'm glad I went up and happy I am home.

Ready for the weekend

Hello all,

I am ready to be away from the office for a few days. I'm looking forward to straightening up the basement and moving Zac's bed downstairs. Jen and I are going to make Zac's room into a kids playroom for the winter. It is so much warmer in Zac's room than in the basement.

Jennifer has a spa tonight. Wish her luck! There are going to be twelve people at her spa which is a lot of people. On the good side, hopefully she will have a lot of orders! Good luck tonight sweetie!

Better close and listen to my conference call.

Ready to thaw out!

Hello all,

Just a quick note to say that we did not lose power last night in the ice storm. The wind blew a little bit and the sleet is thick. I'm working from home today. Poor Jen has to drive in this stuff. I hope you are all safe and warm at home today.

Ready for the ice storm!

Hello all,

I am sitting in my living room listening to the rain fall on my sky lights. The temperature is 29°F and I fear that the roads will be as bad as the weather stations are predicting. I left Overland Park around 2:00 to make it home before the storm started to make the roads bad.

The rain is starting to pick up. I wonder how bad it will get? I hope I don't lose power.

First post of the new year

Hello all,

I want to start by saying thank you to everyone that has emailed and called recently. Your thoughts and prayers are especially welcome. A special thank you goes out to Mary Brown. I'm doing ok. Life is rough, but each day I know that my walk will get easier in time.

I talked to my mom and dad yesterday. Dad was having a good day. He was looking forward to watching the Chiefs game with my sister Nicole and my mom. Too bad the Chiefs could not win. Oh well... I guess there is always next year.

I guess I haven't written in a while so I should let you all know that my family rang in the new year in style. We went over to Trey and Jen Payton's house for a get together with some friends from college. Our kids played with everyone else's kids while the adults played cards and told stories of what we did when we were younger. At midnight a few kids and a few adults went outside and banged on pots and pans. I'm sure the neighbors appreciated the fine harmony coming from the makeshift band.

We returned home and were in bed by 1:00. Both Ali and Zac were asleep in the car before we left the subdivision. Everyone slept in a little bit and then it was time for breakfast. Saturday was filled with football and an occasional game of Tiger Woods golf with Jen. I'll wait to tell you about that little game. It is a blog entry by itself. :)

OK. I better get something to eat.
