Busy day at the house

Hello all,

This morning Jennifer and I had a garage sale where we sold a lot of the kids stuff that they didn't play with any longer or had outgrown. After the sale, I put Zac's new dresser together as Jennifer and her mother cleaned Zac room up. His room looks great now. Only two more rooms to go before we are ready to put the house on the market.

Working from home today

Hello all,

I am working from home today so that I can go to an appointment with Jen at lunch. It is nice to be working from home without kids crying in the background. It is quite peaceful. The house is quiet. The wind is blowing the trees in the backyard slightly. It is a perfect day.

Good afternoon for a walk

Hello all,

Just a quick note to let you all know that it is a nice day in KC. Steve and I took a longer than normal walk outside today. Earlier this year, we put two geo caches out on the Sprint campus and we went to check on them today. The first one was in good shape. Our second cache was very wet and needs to be replaced with a new log book. After we checked on the sites, we walked around the outside of the campus to increase our distance for the day. I think we walked over 2 miles.

Waiting for memory

Hello all,

I am still waiting for the last piece of computer hardware to arrive. I am missing a 512 MB RAM chip for my DELL laptop. Without it, my machine is running slower than my "old" one. Why can't things just work right the first time?

Cold day outside

Hello all,

It is a cold day outside. I hope this is the last blast of winter. I was hoping to mow the yard today, but since it is still in the 40's, I am going to stay inside where it is warm.

New computer finally

Hello,

I finally got my new Dell latitude computer for my office today. It took most of the day to get my data copied from one computer to the next. Needless to say, I spent most of the day watching files move from one file system to another.

Good to talk to you Mary Brown

Hello all,

You know it is said that God is listening to you all of the time and if you ask him for a favor He will do what he can to accommodate you. Today God answered a little favor of mine. I took a late walk after lunch to let my mind clear. I was enjoying the warm sun and listening to the sounds of spring. As I approached my building, I saw a familiar vehicle waiting in the driveway. It was Mary Brown. She had just dropped Steve off at the back door and was ready to go back home. I waved to her and she returned the favor.

Our conversation covered a lot of subjects, but the main topic was dad's death and how I am coping with my loss. Mary let me know that she lost her father at my age. We shared our feelings towards the loss of our fathers. I won't go into the details of our conversation, but it was very nice to hear someone else validate how I am feeling. I couldn't tell you how long I stood in that driveway. It was nice to be able to talk with someone who had already walked the road I am walking now. To see Mary smile gives me hope that I too will be able to truly smile again. In time, I will be better. In time.

Right now I am still coping with the shock of not having my best friend to call on a nice day like today and ask him why he isn’t on the golf course. Today would be a perfect day for dad to golf. Not too hot or cold. It would be a perfect day to escape from the office and knock it around for 18 holes.

Dad… I hope that you are having a great time in Heaven. I’m sure they have a great selection of golf courses to play and baseball games to watch. Enjoy yourself… you have earned it.

Love,

Andy

Blue Sky

Hello all,

What a nice day for a walk. It was 65° F today at lunch while Chris and I took our walk around the campus. I'm going to the gym tonight after work. This should score me a few point on the scale. At least I hope it does.

Perfect night for a walk

Hello all,

After a meeting at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church tonight, Jen and I took the kids on a walk around the neighborhood. Ali and Zac sat patiently in the little wagon as I pulled them along the brightly lit sidewalks of Zona Rosa. Everyone had a great time. Zac and Ali commented on the colorful clothing while Jen and I enjoyed our evening outside with the kids. It was a lot of fun and a great ending to a perfect day.

Good night,

What a great day

Hello all,

It is a beautiful day outside today. Steve, Chris and I spent part of our lunch hour taking a walk around the campus. The air is cool. The rain that was predicted for this afternoon has not arrived yet. It is a perfect day. I wish I could bottle it and store some of it for this summer when I need a break from the heat and humidity.

I hope you are able to enjoy the day wherever you are. It is too nice of a day not to smile a little bit and thank God for making such a nice day.

New pictures of Ali and Zac

Hello all,

Yes, Jen and I finally had Ali and Zac's pictures taken "professionally" today. We have the physical pictures already, but for those of you that are impatient, I have uploaded all of the pictures to the website for your viewing. Now, not all of the pictures made it to the final cut, but at least you can see what the kids looked like as the photographer was snapping their picture!

I hope you enjoy them as much as Jen and I have.

Here is the link.

Enjoy.

Home cleanup

Hello all,

This morning I mowed the yard again and cleaned the garage out. I know it doesn't sound like a lot of fun, but it needed to be done. The good news is our area is having a garage sale on the 30th so maybe we can get rid of some of this stuff that we have acquired and no longer use. I'll keep you posted.

Back at work today

Hello all,

I know, it is Friday and this is my first day back at work. Trust me, I have not been slacking off. Zac has been battling strep throat since Sunday. I took him to the doctor on Monday and again Wednesday for treatment. It seems that the first antibiotic had no effect on the infection. But he has it whipped now!

Thanks for checking in on me. I'll write more this weekend.

Zac on the mend

Hello all,

It seems the miracle of modern medicine has again worked its wonders on my son. He is feeling much better today. He is drinking more and has started to eat soft foods again. I think Jen and I may get a good night's sleep tonight!!

Trip to Urgent Care

Hello all,

It is late and I want to get this entered before I go to bed. We took Zac to Urgent Care tonight because his throat is not getting any better. We have a new prescription now and hopefully this will kill the infection in his throat.

Day two of strep throat

Hello all,

No big change with Zac's condition. He mopes around the house and wants to watch the Incredibles on DVD most of the time. I hope this medicine is working.

Hello all,

It seems that my son Zachary has strep throat. I will be staying home with him until he feels better and can rejoin his friends at daycare. The poor guy doesn't want to eat or drink anything.

Anyone for playing hookie?

Hello all,

It is 70° F outside today and I am not playing golf. Something is wrong with this equation. I should be on the first tee box ready to hit a monstor drive into the short grass. What am I doing instead? I am working on a weblogic server. I know, what am I thinking... golf is better.

One month later

Hello all,

It has been one month now since dad passed. I didn't know how I was going to do today. Was I going to be filled with sadness? Would I overcompensate and try to be happier than normal? I just didn't know until the day started.

I began the day in my chair. I watched the clock roll from 11:59 PM to 12:00 AM. It was the 7th of April now. Now what? I went to bed and thought I would address the day in the morning.

As the day went on, I kept myself busy. I have been working with Steve on a WebLogic server problem. That activity kept me busy for most of the day. In the afternoon, I had a mandatory team meeting for IBM.

I made it through most of the day without crying much. When I sat down in my chair tonight to write this, it started to hit me. I have a dad's chair. Jen sits on the couch and I sit in my recliner. As I rocked in my chair I thought about dad’s chair at home and what he is doing in Heaven. Is he playing golf every day? What are the rules in Heaven? Can he come down and check on us whenever he wants or can he only visit every once in a while? Just between you and me, I think he can pop in and visit anytime he wants. I have even put a chair on the deck for him to sit and watch the kids play this summer. I hope he stops by from time to time.

Well Dad, I know you are reading this from Heaven. I know you are in a better place now. I want you to know that we all miss you very much and think about you often.

Good night,

-Andy

Fun in the spring sun

Hello all,

Sorry for not writing lately. I have been enjoying the spring days that we have been having in Kansas City. The kids and I have been having a lot of fun playing outside recently. On Sunday, Jen and I did a few chores outside while the kids ran around. Here are some of there pictures.

Ali playing with the water.

Zac playing in the freshly tilled dirt.

I bet I looked a lot like Zac 28 years ago while playing in the dirt on the West side of our house. Before he was done, Zac joined Ali and played with the water.

On Monday night, the family again went outside to play. This time, I had a game plan for taking pictures. My goal was to capture the kids in motion. This meant chasing them at times with the camera. I hope you like the candid shots of Ali and Zac.

This captured my kids spirit the best. I hope you enjoyed looking at them as much as I enjoyed taking them.

Good night!

-Andy
